I feel like we're on a cooking show, like Martha or Sandra Lee or even sassier my girl Paula Deen♥ Okay, let's pretend
Welcome to Takin' Time *hehe* we're here today with my daughter's Abbie and Emelie, and today we're making these:
We've made these for the past few years, and when I went online I found similar recipes everywhere! So you can find the one that works best for you and what you have in your cupboards:)
- We're cheating a bit today and using a pre-made dry sugar cookie mix (by Betty Crocker), and adding butter, eggs, & just a bit of flour. You of course can use your own sugar cookie recipe or cheat like we did:)
- Split the dough in half and put into a separate bowl.
- With food coloring (whatever color you'd like, we used red) color one part of the dough.
- On a floured work surface, shape each dough into balls and then roll each ball into 1/4-inch-wide ropes, each about 6 inches long. For each cookie, carefully twist some of the red and white ropes of dough together and shape into a candy cane. Spread candy canes out on cookie sheets and bake on the top shelf of the oven for about 9-10 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool before serving.
Enjoy! For an added candy cane experience you can also add a few drops of peppermint extract to the red dough. These are good, but they aren't always a favorite for kids (at least mine). So we're making plain ol' sugar cookies.
